Location: Metro Adelaide
Continued from Part 1…
The Adelaide Darkie Tunnel is approximately 1.5kms long and passes under 4 inner city suburbs. The roof changes numerous times; from corrugated iron and old bricked bridges; to modern iron sheeting and concrete.
The final 400m is a back-breaker with the ceiling no more than 5ft6in high. The graffiti becomes more scarce in this part but still contains some very creative works — especially the fox on the side wall near dog footprints embedded within the floor. The exit comes up suddenly and you’re left squinting your eyes from the bright sunlight streaming in.
I hope you enjoy The Adelaide Darkie, it’s one of the coolest drains in Adelaide, and always remember: ‘When It Rains, NO Drains!’
