The Islington Air Raid Shelter is one of several built by the South Australian government should World War II come to Australia.
Many people think the shelters were meant for people to hide within during an air attack however they were built to store emergency food, blankets and other supplies.
Currently this one is being used for document storage but parts of its original make can still can be seen…

You enter Cafe Dianetics downstream at the river outlet. Choose either of the two tunnels, they both go the same way. At the first junction room it converts into a single tunnel which then takes you to the ‘Double Waterfall’.
Once again you can take either drain. The next junction will present you with three options, the far right pipe will take you up to the ‘Candle Chamber’ where small candles sit ready for use.
Back out and onward upstream will take you to the ‘Grill Room’ — an overflow inlet for a creek that runs parallel to the drain. To exit, the grill can be lifted if you have the strength, but let me tell you: it’s no lightweight structure!
