Urban Exploring: Dobby’s Lair

Set back in a field outside Adelaide lies a secret tunnel.

That tunnel leads into a secret underground WWII bunker we like to call, Dobby’s Lair.

Hidden under a grassy hill, Dobby’s Lair would have been built sometime in the 1940s, for Australia‘s war effort, and decommissioned soon after. No longer needed for military purposes, it is now utilised as storage space.

The windowless bunker is built from steel-reinforced concrete, and has only one entrance.

Off-limits to the public, we were kindly allowed access to photograph this old war-time structure…

Urban Exploring: The Hive Tunnel

We first got inside ‘The Hive‘ tunnel 18 months ago, but since then access had been somewhat restricted.

The tunnel was used to make various materials from the First World War up to the 1970s. It sat disused for several years until it was re-purposed: ‘The Hive‘ was active once more.

However 3 years back, activity suddenly stopped. She now sits idle, gathering dust and cobwebs. Here are a few images of The Hive Tunnel we can share with you all:

Urban Exploring: Inside Darling House

Nominated by the public as one of their favourite buildings in Adelaide in 2013, Darling House is not only historically and architecturally significant but has been the source of much intrigue since being left idle in 1997.

For the last 18 years Darling House has sat disused and un-maintained. Rising damp, water damage and wood rot have taken its toll on this once bustling establishment.

However, plans are afoot to restore the old building. Scheduled to be completed by the end of this year we eagerly await to see her rescued from its current dilapidated condition.
