Built in the 15th century, Azkaban was initially a fortress which was home to the evil wizard Ekrizdis. He was known for luring Muggles inside where he tortured and slaughtered them.
The place was infested with Dementors, foul creatures that sucked the happiness out of their victim and caused great suffering.
Authorities considered destroying Azkaban, but decided against it.
Hidden under carpet conceals a small hatch that gets you into The Clarice Bunker. Descending down a rusted ladder and levering open a small blast door reveals the multi-roomed subterranean space.
Thick 8″ steel blast doors shield you from explosions. Traversing the ceiling, the ventilation system recycles your air. Multiple storage tanks hold your water and diesel supply.
When bombs are dropping; when people are rioting and the grid is crumbling, places like this can protect you from the world outside. If WWIII breaks out or a natural disaster destroys everything in a blink of an eye, where do you plan to go?
Once one of Adelaide‘s premier nightclubs (offering alternative music and live shows), it now sits flooded and in darkness. The people that used this space have moved on. Their lives, having played out here, are now a distant memory. You can’t rewind time, but as an Urban Explorer you can breathe a kind of life back into these places,… and show there is true beauty in decay.
